hen her Olde Fashioned cake—which was featured in Philadelphia magazine—was a hit among friends at Tom’s 2014 birthday gathering, Kristina decided to expand her talent into a business, soon selling ice cream cakes at neighborhood festivals and R5’s Punk Rock Flea Market. In spring 2015, Kristina took Entrepreneur Works’ Business Skills Course, in which she learned “how to build a foundation for a sturdy business.” She and Tom also participated in Entrepreneur Works’ 2015 Taste of Success.

he Beese Knees makes every ingredient—including its ice cream—from scratch. Kristina

and Tom also try to infuse their cakes with nostalgia-inducing flavors, such as

aramel and kettle corn, tastes reminiscent of their own childhood memories. In regards to running their own business, Kristina and Tom appreciate Philadelphia’s close-knit

ommunity of small food businesses, as they rely on others’ advice. Ultimately, customers’ satisfaction is the most satisfying part of Kristina’s job, because she loves how her ice cream cakes are “a reason to bring people together.”
