Shugar Shack Soulfood Catering

Keenya Cain-Wiggins’s success comes as no surprise to those who know her and her business’s “great tasting, uniquely flavored food,” as her Facebook page boasts. Keenya, also known as “Chef Shuga” and creator of Shugar Shack Soul Food Catering, won first place in the appetizers category at Entrepreneur Works’ 2015 Taste of Success event with her irresistible “trio of wings,” composed of “Jerk Pep-Her” and orange spice traditional buffalo style wings, with three of her signature sauces.

Keenya first gained recognition for her food-making finesse at just 13, when her mother took Keenya’s cookies—made from a recipe that her late grandfather, Alfred Lee Jr., gave her—into her workplace, where their demand skyrocketed. After taking a few of Entrepreneur Works’ workshops and learning how to fine-tune her small business plans with Director of Entrepreneur Services Earl Boyd, Keenya opened Shugar Shack as its owner and executive chef.

Today, Keenya still pours her cooking talents there, either at the restaurant’s set location in Southwest Philadelphia, or around the tristate area catering at various parks and festivals. She puts food and service first, aiming to “feed the heart, mind, and soul” of customers. Keenya also enjoys opportunities to network with wonderful, like-minded people, as well as the freedom to create.
