For over a decade, Shugar Shack Soul Food, founded by Keenya Cain-Wiggins, lovingly known as “Chef Shuga,” has been a beloved fixture in Glenolden, PA. From beginning in 2015 as Shugar Shack Soul Food Catering, Keenya’s business has blossomed into a thriving take-out soul food restaurant catering company and food truck. Her flavorful dishes and commitment to excellent service have made Shugar Shack a community favorite in Delaware County.
The Entrepreneur Works Impact: Supporting Growth Through Adversity
Keenya’s success is a testament to how Entrepreneur Works supports small businesses in their most challenging moments. In May 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the restaurant industry, Shugar Shack Soul Food faced immense challenges. Entrepreneur Works provided Keenya with a $10,000 Emergency COVID-19 Relief Loan, enabling her to adapt to new health guidelines and keep her doors open.
This crucial funding helped Keenya retain her employees, extend their hours, and safely continue serving her community. Without this support, her business might not have survived, but instead, it thrived—Shugar Shack even extended its operating hours to meet growing demand.
A Legacy of Excellence and Community Leadership
Keenya’s journey with Entrepreneur Works began in 2015 when she participated in the multi-week Start It, Grow It business course, gaining the knowledge and tools needed to elevate her business. That same year, her culinary talents shone brightly when she won the Taste of Success competition, further cementing her status as a rising star in the soul food industry. Keenya returned in 2019 as a guest judge, inspiring other aspiring entrepreneurs with her expertise and passion.
In recognition of her success, Keenya will be inducted into the newly named Heldring Hall of Fame during our 35th-anniversary celebration—a tribute to her resilience, leadership, and community impact.
Celebrating Family, Resilience, and Innovation
Keenya’s story is one of family, resilience, and determination. Alongside her daughter, Keenya has built a family legacy through Shugar Shack Soul Food, which was recently featured on FOX 29’s “What’s for Dinner” segment. The feature highlighted not only their delicious dishes but also the strong family bond that drives their business forward.
Shugar Shack Soul Food is more than just a business—it’s a family enterprise, and a reminder that when you support Entrepreneur Works, you’re supporting families, dreams, and legacies that will continue to enrich our communities for generations.
