Loan Officer – Small Business

THE ORGANIZATION:
Entrepreneur Works Fund is a non-profit, certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) focused on growing small businesses and creating jobs in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Our mission is to cultivate and promote successful entrepreneurs among underserved populations and in underserved areas of the region – entrepreneurs who then become economic engines in their own communities.

Our loan portfolio provides affordable microloans between $500 and $50,000 to entrepreneurs who might otherwise be unable to secure capital from a traditional bank. We have no minimum credit score and can be flexible around collateral as well as the age and revenue of the business. By connecting hundreds of entrepreneurs each year with access to capital, one-on-one technical assistance, business training and networking opportunities, Entrepreneur Works Fund helps promising individuals develop economic self-sufficiency and create job opportunities through business ownership.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Loan Officer – Small Business will play a key role in managing the growth, strategy and risk of Entrepreneur Works’ small business loan portfolio.

Entrepreneur Works is currently focused on expanding the small business loan portfolio and developing new, competitive products that are relevant to the populations that the organization serves. The Loan Officer – Small Business will be at the forefront of this effort — building community partnerships, originating and underwriting loans, designing new products, and bringing efficiency to department operations. This person will also help to direct and streamline the loan administration process.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an exceptional communicator who can work well at the intersection of financial strategy and customer service, thrives in dynamic, multi-cultural settings, and is passionate about financial literacy and economic justice. Demonstrated experience working with a diverse range of clients and colleagues is a must, as is the ability to break down complex financial topics into soundbites that those without a background in business will be able to understand.

Candidates should also have experience working independently, comfort managing their own projects, and the ability to quickly understand new industries, protocols and legal topics.

The ideal candidate would have experience with lending, or at least familiarity with lending concepts and performance reporting.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Portfolio Strategy

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of annual loan production goals in accordance with organization’s strategic and annual operating plans
  • Monitors and conducts research on relevant regulatory and public policy issues
  • Identifies, develops and implements new financial products to serve the market
  • Updates and/or proposes new departmental policies and procedures when necessary
  • Works closely with the senior management team to prepare proposals for the funding and financing of operations and the loan fund for current needs and anticipated growth

New Business Development and Community Outreach

  • Direct marketing and outreach to prospective borrowers
  • Represents organization and makes presentations at community events and conferences
  • Cultivates relationships and builds referral networks with banks, local government agencies, community organizations, and other financial intermediaries

Loan Origination

  • Loan applicant intake, underwriting and analysis
  • Identifies business assistance needs of loan applicant
  • Prepares and presents loan packages for loan committee

Risk Management & Reporting

  • Develops reports and analyses of portfolio performance for senior management, loan committee, funders and the board
  • Ensures that data collection, reporting and filing systems meet organization’s reporting needs and comply with all contract, funder and audit requirements
  • Coordinates on-going technical assistance to borrowers to optimize the repayment of loans
  • Supervises loan repayment, delinquency management, collections, problem loans and workouts within established policies and performance standards

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong financial analysis skills
  • Superior writing, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working (or volunteering) with diverse and underserved populations
  • Experience managing other employees and/or projects with limited supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Power Point)

Preferred

  • Lending experience (especially small business or microfinance related)
  • Experience working/volunteering for a non-profit organization
  • Experience with relational database applications (SQL)

Volunteer Host Committee Member

POSITION: Volunteer Host Committee Member

REPORTS TO: Development and Communications Manager

THE EVENT:

Tate of Success is Entrepreneur Works Fund’s signature fundraising event. The event features our clients in the food industry who compete for prizes in different food categories.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Volunteer Host Committee will play a key role in the planning of our 16th annual Taste of Success event. The event is planned to be held in Spring 2018. The Volunteer Host Committee will work very closely with Entrepreneur Works staff members. Entrepreneur Works will provide all necessary outreach and marketing materials to ensure the success of the committee.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This unpaid position requires an extremely organized go-getter with the ability to commit to fundraising for Taste of Success. Demonstrated experience working with non-profit organizations is a must. The ideal candidate would have experience with fundraising and/or event planning. Candidates will also be able to commit to regular, monthly meetings held at the Entrepreneur Works office. Weekly commitment from July-December 2017 is roughly 1-2 hours per week. Weekly commitment after January 2018 will increase to 3-4 hours per week.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteers must commit to helping raise a minimum of $5,000 in sponsorships and/or ticket sales. Exceptional volunteers may set higher goals. Successful candidates will have experience and interest in one or more of the following sub-committees:

Logistics Committee

  • Develop event program including, but not limited to:
    • Securing event emcee
    • Obtaining keynote speaker
    • Communicating with honoree
    • Develop talking points for emcee, keynote speaker, and honoree
    • Develop run of show
  • Experience working with AV teams and able to communicate event needs
  • Ensure event stays within budget by working closely with event planning committee

Event Planning and Marketing Committee

  • Assist with decisions regarding event catering selection and venue selection
  • Able to clearly articulate event needs to venue and catering team
  • Participate in developing concept for event marketing materials
  • Experience in public relations and media outreach to properly promote event to general public
  • Identify local “celebrity” chefs to take part in the judging

Corporate Relations and Sponsorships Committee

  • Help hold all volunteer host committee members accountable for their fundraising goals
  • Assist with developing sponsorship levels
  • Work to ensure all pledged sponsorships are fulfilled

Volunteer Committee

  • Identify pipelines of day-of volunteers to assist during event
  • Host comprehensive orientation for volunteers prior to the event; must be able to clearly convey the roles and responsibilities of volunteers
  • Point person(s) for volunteers during the event

Silent and Live Auction Committee

  • Develop list of potential auction donations
  • Assist Entrepreneur Works staff with securing auction items
  • Create price points for auction items
  • Identify auction software to use during event
  • Help promote auction items prior and during the event

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Fundraising and/or event planning experience
  • Experience in one or more of the above categories
  • Exceptionally organized and driven
  • Works well as part of a team

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Loan Service Associate will play a key role in the operations and risk management of Entrepreneur Works’ small business loan portfolio by managing the services provided to our clients after their loans are closed and disbursed.

This includes monitoring portfolio performance and staying in close contact with borrowers to identify those that need technical assistance before they reach the point of default. The Loan Service Associate will also manage the collections process, maintain the department’s data collection and systems, and produce loan servicing and closing documentation.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a customer-service oriented individual who is comfortable with data entry, thrives in multi-cultural settings, and is passionate about financial literacy and economic justice. Demonstrated experience working with a diverse range of clients and colleagues is a must, as is comfort with a deadline-driven environment.

The ideal candidate has experience entering data, managing client relationships and navigating complex interpersonal situations both on the phone and in person.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF LOAN SERVICE ASSOCIATE:
• Monitor borrowers, their businesses and repayment patterns to identify troubled loans
• Identify business assistance needs of current borrowers and connect them with relevant resources
• Make site visits to borrower’s businesses when necessary
• Manage collections process, make collections calls
• Prepare borrowers’ billing statements and late letters
• Process loan payments
• Enter client data into Entrepreneur Works’ loan servicing and CRM software programs
• Assist with portfolio reporting and surveys

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
• At least 1-2 years of experience in client-facing and/or customer service roles
• Ability to navigate complex interpersonal interactions
• Experience with data entry, finance, administration and/or business
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook
• Superior writing, verbal and interpersonal skills
• Experience working (or volunteering) with diverse and underserved populations
• Ability to quickly learn departmental software systems

Preferred
• Previous loan servicing experience
• Experience mentoring or consulting, particularly with small businesses or entrepreneurs
• Experience with small business management or knowledge thereof
• Experience with relational database applications (SQL)
